This month, The Gig Week is set to offer the perfect mix of passionate artists with more guts than labels, the creative vibes of a grassroot platform and the intimacy of the city’s most vibrant live music venues.
The festival includes seven days of gigs at seven different venues across the city – each with unique line-ups to support and promote local musicians.
HKFP recommends 9 Maps and Esimorp
9 Maps’ music draws listeners into an emotionally fertile environment – sometimes folksy, sometimes futuristic – where imagination and nostalgia interweave. From opening for Ellie Goulding to playing at Hidden Agenda, 9 Maps flourish on the largest as well as most intimate of stages. They were marked out by Time Out magazine’s ‘Shining Lights’ feature as the local band to watch, and by CNNgo as one of the ‘Best Hong Kong bands to rock out with’.
Esimorp is made of two long-time friends from Atlanta, USA, and two new friends from Hong Kong and Sydney, Australia. Their musical ventures aim to expose truths, hopes and other intangibles through music with both new and familiar sounds. With influences from artists like Mumford and Sons, Kings of Leon, and Coldplay, expect a blend of folk’s honesty, rock’s energy and ambient music’s atmosphere.
Tickets from HK$120, available via Ticketflap.
