‘HK Man’ has copiled an impressive Flickr collection of over 1000 ‘before & after’ photos of old and new Hong Kong. Each photo of bygone HK is contrasted with a more recent one…
…Reassuringly, some scenes – like the trams – never change…
The group’s administrator, ‘HK Man’, welcomes donations of old photos.
Sources and dates are often hazy, but the ‘before’ shots cover the whole of the 20th century.

Imagine living in some of those places in the old photos-cramped,crowded, stifling hot most of the time, with all the street noises coming in through the open windows. It’s a shame to see most of the old shophouses gone, but I suspect anyone that actually had to live in them doesn’t miss them too much.

I want having eso gold, and searching pretty their get out!
Thank you for the pictures. My son had to do a project of old Hong Kong and changes up to present time so these were brilliant!
Oh how I love those old world flats with the verandas!
so heartbreaking. to think that character means misery and that the only way out is …
THAT!
learn from the past : place was pretty then, now its scarily huge and overwhelming… no more space to breath… idea learnt : escape Hong Kong if you can!
that’s not the only way out. smart, eco-friendly cities are an other way out
Hi! Where can I get the original photos as I want to go Fotomax for printing.
Thank you.
