A proposal for a new LEGO set based on Hong Kong street food is gaining traction on the toy company’s fan-backed Ideas website.
Kalok Toys submitted a plan for a set featuring the city’s well-loved egg waffle, stinky tofu and fishball vendors. As well as 1980s newspaper and ice-cream hawkers.
“I submitted this project because of my love for real Hong Kong culture – it is not only street food culture which is under threat,” a Kalok Toys spokesperson told HKFP. “Developer hegemony and our government kill many small businesses – these businesses represent the real Hong Kong culture, and I want to use LEGO to remind people of that.”
Proposals with more than 10,000 supporters are reviewed by LEGO. The proposal had almost 2,000 supporters as of Monday morning.
